sounds of the season

i attended cacie's holiday concert last night at springton lake middle school
my alma mater...what a stroll down memory lane that was
so many memories flipped thru my mind as i watched these little people run around in their red tops (girls) and white shirts with neckties hanging below their waists (boys)
so energetic, so excited and so silly
a pleasant change from the elderly population that surrounds me daily

middle school was such a rapid transition from rose tree to penncrest
you're suddenly with 1,000 students, new faces, different personalities, foreign languages, interscholastic sports, nine periods a day, and getting your period
UGH...that swimming pool and the nasty one piece navy bathing suits!
girls would say they had their period to avoid swimming
the gym teacher would check our purses to see if we had feminine products
i would throw a large stayfree pad from that huge stayfree box in my mom's closet into my monogrammed "cnn" bermuda bag on pool day
anything to avoid the "swim" and shower afterwards
i was a late bloomer and was not ready to see or expose breasts and pubic hair

sometimes i would roll down to the nurse's office prior to swim class and get diagnosed with a headache and hit the blue mat/bed with the plastic pillow for twenty minutes
there were many days when i was extremely tired from being up watching dynasty and knots landing

your new best friend varied day to day
your boyfriend on a monday morning was not your boyfriend at 2:55pm
the boy-girl parties started
dale waters, richie fratarola, and mikey ryan were the hotties

funny times and SO long ago....fortunately i am still friends with many springton lake spartans
some of them will be attending pollyanna '05 saturday night at my house

i am glad i went to see cacie perform with her peers last night
i think it always means a lot to her to see my brother (her father) and i sitting with her mother and step-dad
we all love her dearly

JoJo I agree with you, who the hell are these people? In that vain, it's time you went legit. Sign up with blogger and get a real name no more "anonymous"-- you deserve a name

The Springton Lake "Pool" event wasn't much better for the boys. We were required to wear indestructable nylon swim trunks that were bleached beyond recognition. Heck, they still prolly use them to this day.

Class required us to tread water for 15 minutes and dive/recover a heavy rubber brick down at the deep end.

Christine Fox was "that year's girl" if I remember correctly. Valerie Volpe wasn't too bad either.

Very fond memories.

Hmmm I think I see Jojo's first blog be something of an insider's view of the Polyanna gig?
